Demoliton Derby

Last night Jay wanted to go to the races. He likes to go to dirt tracks, not pavement tracks. And they have to be somewhat small, no Nascar types. He had been wanting to go for a while and since last night was the last race of the season I said let's go. I am not too fond of racing, but on occasion it is interesting. So we headed out over the Golden Gate Bridge north to the races. The race last night had a 200 lap free for all. The cars were total beat up clunkers. The hit each other, blew out tires and kept going, kept going with bumpers dragging, smoking, sparking, just craziness. It started out with about 40 cars and by the last lap there were only eight left. Basically it was whoevers car could make it 200 laps without breaking or wrecking. We ate junk food and sodas and sat in the chilly night air. After the race they had a car go up a ramp to see how many times the driver could get it to roll over. He wouldn't go up the ramp fast so it finally rolled, but not alot. The final event was a demolition derby. They had twelve big clunkers and they just crashed them into each other until only one car was left running. Which was a lot of crashing! The boys had a great time. Nicholas is really into Hot Wheels and such, so he liked all the crashes. It will be interesting to see what type of tracks he builds after last night and how he plays with his cars. Both boys fell asleep on the way home. I had never seen an actual demoliton derby so it was fun for me as well. Not something I want to do all the time, but a fun experience.
